KPS is Wyoming’s only creative and performing arts preschool. Kaleidoscope was designed to strengthen the link between academic excellence and education in the arts. Studies have indicated that the arts are systematically devalued and removed from many traditional classroom settings in favor of increased emphasis on test preparation and assessment. We connect the dots by offering a complete academic and kindergarten readiness program linked to a carefully crafted creative arts education. Our team of highly skilled teachers and specialists teach music, dance, visual arts, theater, and yoga to support our high academic standards.

Kaleidoscope Preschool Systems (KPS) is designed to teach academic skills to young children through integration and exploration of creative and performing arts.

Using thematic units, we teach literacy, mathematics, social studies, and science skills through an integrated approach with art, music, dance, drama, and yoga.

Students at KPS focus on kindergarten readiness skills using the eight essential skill areas for early childhood readiness and lifelong learning:

  • Language
  • Literacy
  • Social Emotional Development
  • Logic and Problem-solving
  • Mathematics
  • Science/Social Studies
  • Physical Health and Development
  • Creative Arts

We also offer a Gallery Walk 3-4 times throughout the year to give our students an opportunity to showcase everything they have learned in class for their family & friends! This includes their art work, dance classes, music, etc.

Example of our daily schedule for Kaleidoscope Preschool:

Welcome - including stretches, poetry, discussion, math, games, songs and seasonal activities

Specialists- 45 minute instruction in dance, art, music, drama or yoga

Snack Break-
Please provide your child with snacks and/or lunch & a water bottle.

Thematic literature and active lesson (for example, we read a traditional folk tale, discuss the art style and play a life-sized board game based on the illustrator’s characters and colors; or trudge through the snow in an imaginary forest to the Ranger Station to read about pines and foxes and create a fox costume. We hunt for giant squid, paint cherry blossoms, sing songs from around the world and much more!)

*Kaleidoscope Preschool will follow the Laramie County School District #1 holiday schedule for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Breaks. Kaleidoscope will follow Laramie County School District #1 for closures due to weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes this program worth the price tag?

There are several reasons why KPS is worthy of the investment in your child’s future:

    • Other preschools charge an additional fee for enrichment classes. Our arts-based program features inclusive pricing.
    • This innovative approach to preschool is the result of extensive research and development.
    • The curriculum was designed and developed by a team of educators-individuals who have significant credentials and experience in their area of expertise.
    • Specialists are experts in the arts. Each specialist has expertise in professionally teaching dance, music, art, drama, and yoga.
    • KPS teachers and assistants have at least a bachelor’s degree and years of experience in educating young students as well as training in the arts.
  • Why is KPS only half day?

KPS is designed to provide an engaging preschool program, maximizing student engagement and activity while taking into consideration the developmental needs of students. At the end of the preschool day, we anticipate that students will be tired and ready for a relaxed, less rigorous afternoon such as a daycare or home.

  • Will I get progress reports of my child’s success?

Yes, we will be monitoring student progress and success. Parents will receive regular information about the units of study and individual updates on student progress verbally and through a written report.

  • I understand the Kaleidoscope image, but what does the word ‘Systems’ have to do with your program?

The word “Systems” refers to the framework, philosophy, curriculum, approach, and supplemental materials that make up KPS.

Rather than a stock or scripted preschool program, KPS relies upon the integrated approach of fine arts and academic skills to provide students with an opportunity to develop creativity as well as kindergarten readiness skills.

  • How does a preschooler benefit from this type of education?

KPS encourages students to be curious, active, and creative. Children are given opportunities every day to explore and inquire into new ideas. This learning is reinforced and expanded through regular instruction in the arts: dance, art, music, drama, and yoga.

Many research studies have concluded that in order for students to develop creativity, imagination, and curious minds, they need to experience both academic tasks and activities from the arts. Research also shows that early exposure to the arts helps to prepare the whole child for academic success, particularly as an enhancement to STEM education.
