LYRICAL

Lyrical is a fairly new style of dance, but it’s technique traces back to the 20th century through the Russian Vaganova method of classical ballet where back strength and fluidity of the arms were the main focus. Lyrical is an interpretive and emotionally driven dance form that focuses on both jazz and ballet technique. Song lyrics are used to strongly inspire choreography and bring out a connection between the dancer and the music. Fluid motions, strong body lines, and sustained extensions are a major focus in lyrical dance. Leaps, turns, and acrobatics have also helped push lyrical dance to new heights.
